HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- Southern Miss Women's Tennis saw four of its student-athletes earn ITA Scholar-Athlete honors, while the team itself earned accolades for boasting a 3.389 GPA.
Monique Burton, Warisara Lee, Sarah Medik and Ebru Yazgan made the list. The first three also earned President's List honors for earning a 4.0, while Yazgan made the Dean's List.
"I'm very pleased to see our team recognized for our academic accomplishments," head coach Steve Schram said. "The student-athletes do a great job balancing their studies along with their tennis schedules. I'm especially pleased to see junior Monique Burton continue to excel in the classroom after achieving a remarkable 4.0 grade point average in each of her four semesters here at USM. We're also very fortunate to have excellent academic staff that help assist each of our student-athletes along the way."
Southern Miss had raced out to an 11-1 start before the season was suspended to COVID-19, and it would have easily marked the program's best win percentage if it had enough matches to qualify. Yazgan had also earned Athlete of the Week honors just before the shutdown, and Sarah Medik was later named to the All-Freshman Team.
