Both Robbie Latter and Thongpipat Rattanayanon cited by the league office for their outstanding play.
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss golfers Robbie Latter (Mississauga, Ontario) and Thongpipat Rattanayanon (Bangkok, Thailand) capped their outstanding Golden Eagle debut seasons Thursday by collecting Conference USA All-Freshman Team honors.
"To have two freshmen earn their way on the Conference USA All-Freshmen team is a fantastic accomplishment," said Southern Miss men's golf coach Eddie Brescher. "This is a testament to the amount of impact these two young men have had on our team on and off the golf course. From the first time they stepped foot on campus, they have made it a point to earn the respect of their teammates and fellow competitors.
"I am proud of what Robbie and Thongpipat have accomplished to this point of their careers. We look forward to the bright future these two players have in our program."
Latter ended his freshman campaign by posting the lowest scoring round average in school history (72.29). In addition, he registered par or below rounds a team-high tying 12 times including a season-low 67 in each of the first two rounds of the LaTour Intercollegiate (2/17) in Mathews, La. His highest individual finish came at the Health Plan Mountaineer Invitational (10/7-8) in which he ended with a one-under 215 for the 54-hole tournament.
Rattanaynon finished with a 73.00 stroke per round average in the season-shortened year due to COVID-19. He enjoyed three top 20 finishes during the season, including a season-best 13th-place tie in the AutoTrader Collegiate Classic (10/14-15) in which he finished with a one-under par 215.
The duo combined to produce the fifth-best freshman class in Division I by Golfstat.com.
Since the league started recognizing an All-Freshman team in 2003, Southern Miss had two players earn this accolade prior to this season. Those individuals include Justin Elliott in 2003 and Jason Cuthbertson in 2006.
