Beach Volleyball Finishes Weekend 4-0, Extends Winning Streak to Five

COVINGTON, La. -- The Southern Miss Beach Volleyball team took both of its Saturday matches en route to moving its winning streak to five games following a 4-0 weekend at the UNO Beach Volleyball Invitational. The Golden Eagles (5-2, 2-0 CCSA) edged Texas A&M - Kingsville (8-3) 3-2 in the morning bout at the Digs Volleyball Complex before holding off Louisiana Monroe (3-10, 0-6 CCSA) for a 3-2 win in the nightcap. Southern Miss' win over the Warhawks was their second Coastal Collegiate Sports Association win of the season.
The five-game winning streak is the longest in program history and includes two CCSA wins. Kellie Garraway and Kinsley Hanback have won a team-best seven contests as they sport a 7-0 record. Hallie Phelan and Haley Hop moved to 6-1 on the season after going 3-1 this weekend. At the top pairing, Abbey Wilson and Kylie Grandy own a 5-2 record after the weekend.
Southern Miss 3, TAMUK 2
The Golden Eagles fell behind early after Breleigh Favre and Olivia Hepworth dropped a close match on court four. The pair grabbed the first set with a 25-23 score but fell 21-19 to force a deciding third set. Emily North and Macie Satterwhite managed to fend off Favre and Hepworth in a 15-13 third-set win. It didn't take long for Hanback and Garraway to erase the deficit as the sophomores squeaked out a 22-20 win in the first set and fell 27-25 in the second set. However, they took the third set via a 15-9 score to tie the match at one. Lindsey Smith and Kaile Tuisamatatele fell in three sets on court six.
Grandy and Abbey gave Southern Miss the lead after sweeping Tenley Housler and Roxanne Morris at the top spot by a 21-17, 21-17 score. The Golden Eagles secured their third win of the weekend after Phelan and Hop cruised to a two-set win on court three. The Golden Eagles' rookies won 21-14, 21-19. The Javelinas managed to knock off Piper Matsumoto and Madison Lawler on court two to make it a one-point final score. Lawler and Matsumoto fell 18-21, 21-15, 15-9.

For the second time this season, Southern Miss defeated ULM by a 3-2 score. The Golden Eagles jumped ahead early after Hanback and Garraway swept Katie McKay and Ina Gosen on court five. The Warhawks tied the match heading to the second flight with a win of court four over Favre and Hepworth. In the exhibition match on court six, Smith and Tuisamatatele cruised to a 21-13, 21-19 win.
ULM took its first lead of the night courtesy of a three-set win from Grace Convey and Kayla Gallant on court two. The Warhawk duo upended Matsumoto and Lawler by a 17-21, 21-16, 15-12 score. However, Grandy and Wilson evened the contest with a three-set win of their own. The pair won 21-17, 19-21, 15-10 against Julia Blazek and Gabby Love. In another epic battle, Phelan and Hop had all eyes on them as Southern Miss searched for the win. The Golden Eagles' third pair delivered as they erased a first-set loss to win 11-21, 21-14, 15-12.
