Lady Eagles to Finish Regular-Season at UAB

Southern Miss will finish out C-USA play in Bartow Arena.
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Lady Eagles hit the road for the final regular-season game of the year against UAB in Bartow Arena. Tip is set for 2 p.m. in Birmingham.
Southern Miss (15-13, 7-10) finishes out the regular-season and C-USA play with the matchup against UAB (19-10, 11-6).
The Lady Eagles saw a win against Florida Atlantic to snap a two-game loss streak while also breaking a five-game losing streak at home on Thursday night. It was Joye Lee-McNelis' 500th game as the head coach of the Lady Eagles. Respect Leaphart continues to lead her squad in both points (411) and rebounds (175), while also being just 11 points away from hitting 1,000 in her career. Daishai Almond is the leader for assists for the Lady Eagles, dishing out 111 so far.
McNelis' Lady Eagles showed an all-new lineup against the Owls with the starting nod going to Allie Kennedy, Liz Gibbs, Daishai Almond, Respect Leaphart, and Kelsey Jones. Senior Shonte Hailes came into the game in the third quarter for the first time in seven games as she has been out with an injury, and she made her presence known with a good three-pointer.
Southern Miss is tied for eighth in C-USA with Marshall, while UAB sits in fifth place tied with Charlotte. The Blazers are led by Randy Norton who is in his seventh season in Birmingham. His squad is led by Rachael Childress in scoring with 486, Angela Vendrell in both rebounds with 220 and assists with 134. The Blazers are on a two-game winning streak and are coming off a win in overtime to top-ranked Old Dominion in Norfolk, 64-61.
The matchup is the most played in Conference USA for Southern Miss, with 64 total games played. The Lady Eagles lead the series 40-24 all-time, with a 25-19 record in the C-USA era and 16-11 mark under Coach McNelis. Southern Miss leads the series in Bartow Arena by a slim one-game margin at 16-15.
