
Men's Tennis Set for Three-Match Homestand Friday, Saturday

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss men's tennis team is excited to return to its home courts this weekend, where it will host Jacksonville State on Friday (2 p.m.) and Mississippi Valley State on Saturday (12 p.m. doubleheader). Admission is free.
Head coach Zubin Engineer is seeking his 100th win at the helm, currently boasting a 97-51 record in his seventh year.
The Golden Eagles have been led by Matthieu Peres and Christopher Cahour in singles, with both boasting 7-2 records. Peres has played on a team-high four different singles positions as well. Southern Miss is 11-11 in doubles and have seen new tandems gain experience and familiarity as the second half of the season gets underway.
The Black and Gold are 6-4 on the year after a couple of road defeats to Troy and New Orleans. The seven-match homestand earlier this season featured wins over UAB (4-0) and Nicholls (5-2) to finish strong.Â
Jacksonville State is 8-1 and coming off a shutout of Alabama State on Friday. The Gamecocks have a pair of undefeated singles performers in Aljaz Kaplja and Thomas Norwood. Kaplja was also the Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Year in 2018.
Mississippi Valley is 0-4 on the year, most recently dropping a doubleheader at Memphis on Friday. The Delta Devils also faced Texas Tech in Greenville.
