HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss men's tennis team will continue its lengthy homestand with 11 a.m. matches Saturday and Sunday against Delta State and UAB, respectively. Admission is free for both.
The Golden Eagles have been led by a pair of 5-0 singles performers, Matthieu Peres and Christopher Cahour, as well as Antoine Androine who has opened 4-0. The squad is 21-4 in singles while sporting a 6-5 mark in doubles.
Southern Miss fell 4-1 to the Blazers last season, with Matthieu Peres winning on No. 3 singles over Jasper van Kleef, 6-4, 6-0. The two teams were set to rematch at the C-USA Showcase in Houston in April, but inclement weather prevented it from happening. Southern Miss had won 5-2 and 4-0 in the previous two meetings.
UAB is 0-3 to start the year and had Friday's match against North Alabama canceled. The Blazers have faced a gauntlet that includes No. 21 Mississippi State and (RV) Alabama, as well as Chattanooga.
Delta State's season is in its earliest stages, but Côme Bracaval won Gulf South Freshman of the Week honors for going 6-0 in a tournament at Ouachita Baptist. This is the first matchup between the teams since a 7-0 Golden Eagle win in February 2017.
