Southern Miss had two First Team and two Third Team placements based on their Championship finishes.
DALLAS, Texas – Conference USA officially announced the All-Conference honorees for the Indoor Track and Field season on Tuesday afternoon, with Southern Miss' squad garnering four accolades.
The All-Conference awards are based off of event finishes at the Indoor Track & Field Championships, which took place at the Birmingham CrossPlex on Feb. 22 and 23. Those who placed first in their events were named First Team All-Conference, those placing second in their events were named Second Team All-Conference and those placing third in their events were named Third Team All-Conference.
Southern Miss had three on the women's side and one on the men's, consisting of two First Team and two Third Team accolades.Â
Senior Eric Richards was named First Team All-Conference after earning his first-place finish at the Indoor C-USA Championships in the high jump with a mark of 6'11.50". This is his second-straight C-USA Indoor Champion title and second-straight First Team All-Conference nod for his event.
The women's distance medley relay team consisted of Taylor Harris, Sarah McMillon, Savannah McMillon, and Sandra Szpott. That grouping earned First Team All-Conference after their first-place finish at the meet with a time of 11:54.42. They are the first women's DMR to become C-USA Champions at Southern Miss, and move into sixth all-time at Southern Miss with their finish time.
Lina May and Callie Jones were both named Third Team All-Conference for their third-place finishes in their respective events. Sophomore May finished third in the 5000m with a time of 17:00.41. She is now ranked third all-time at Southern Miss in the 5000m. Jones earned the bronze medal in the pentathlon, where she amassed 3,598 points. That point total moved her up into second all-time at Southern Miss. She was previously in fourth with a total of 3,298 from the Championship meet in 2018. Jones, now a junior, placed first in the 60m hurdles and the shot put, while finishing third in the long jump, seventh in the 800m, and eighth in the high jump in this year's pentathlon competition.Â
