Softball Falls to McNeese State, 4-1

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss softball team (8-4) fell to McNeese State (14-2) on Tuesday night at the Southern Miss Softball Complex in Hattiesburg.

McNeese State used eight hits and two Southern Miss errors to produce its four runs in the game.

Sophomore left fielder Madison Rayner, junior center fielder Destini Brown and junior third baseman Alyssa "Tata" Davis each recorded a hit in the contest for Southern Miss.

Sophomore right-handed pitcher Kaylan Ladner drew the start in the circle for the Golden Eagles and pitched 3.1 innings. In 3.1 innings pitched, Ladner allowed five hits, two runs, one earned run, issued one walk and struck out three.

Sophomore right-hander Makenna Pierce and freshman right-hander Savanna Wood made relief appearances in the contest.

Pierce entered the game in the top of the third inning and pitched 2.2 innings of relief. The Daphne, Ala. native allowed two hits, two runs, one earned run, issued one walk and struck out one.

Wood entered the game in the top of the seventh inning, allowed one hit and did not surrender any runs or walks.

Ladner (2-2) suffered the loss and McNeese State starting pitcher Saleen Flores (5-1) earned the win. McNeese State reliever Alexsandra Flores was credited with the save.

The Golden Eagles will be back in action tomorrow when they host the Alcorn State Lady Braves in a doubleheader. Game one is set to begin at 4:00 p.m. and game two is scheduled for a 6:00 p.m. start.

Tomorrow's doubleheader against Alcorn State was originally scheduled to be played last Wednesday (Feb. 19), but was postponed due to inclement weather.

- Southern Miss freshman catcher Hannah Borden extended her on-base streak to 12 games. Borden's 12-game on-base streak is currently the longest on-base streak for any active Southern Miss player.
- Borden also registered a walk in the game and currently ranks as Southern Miss' team leader in walks with a total of 12 for the season.
- Davis improved her current hitting streak to six games, marking the longest active hitting streak on the Golden Eagles' squad.
