
Softball Sweeps Michelle Short Memorial Classic With Wins Over Morehead State and Central Arkansas on Sunday

CONWAY, Ark. – The Southern Miss softball team (8-3) finished its stint in the Michelle Short Memorial Classic by capturing victories against Morehead State (3-5) and Central Arkansas (10-5) on Sunday. Southern Miss took a 13-2 decision against Morehead State in its first game of the day and a 7-4 decision against Central Arkansas in its final game of the tournament.

Over the course of the tournament, Southern Miss outscored its opponents 55-14.

Southern Miss defeated Morehead state in five innings due to the run rule, marking its fourth run-rule victory of the weekend.
Â
Redshirt junior outfielder Amber Pack paved the way for Southern Miss against Morehead State, going 4-for-4 with two home runs, seven RBIs and two runs scored. Pack provided the final blow with a game-ending grand slam in the bottom of the fifth inning.

As a team, Southern Miss banged the ball around the park in the contest with seven different Golden Eagles registering at least on hit.

In the circle, sophomore right-handed pitcher Kaylan Ladner (2-1) provided the Golden Eagles with a quality start. The Kiln, Miss native went the distance and earned her second win of the season. In five innings pitched, Ladner surrendered five hits, two runs, one earned run, issued one walk and struck out seven.

Sophomore right-handed pitcher Makenna Pierce entered the game in the bottom of the seventh inning and secured the final out. In the four batters that she faced, Pierce issued one walk and notched one strikeout. She did not allow any runs.
