HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss men's golf coach Eddie Brescher announced Wednesday the addition of Ryan Dupuy (Baton Rouge, La.) and Cam Guidry (Picayune, Miss.) for the 2020-21 season.
Dupuy, who attends The Dunham School, ranks No. 27 in the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) overall rankings and No. 113 in the Junior Golf Scoreboard 2021 national rankings.
With 11 career top 25 AJGA finishes, the 2020 AJGA All-American captured 2020 championships in the AJGA Junior at Innisbrook (71, 70, 70), the Southern Junior Golf Tour at Hattiesburg CC (67, 66), the Future Tour Championships (71, 68) as well as the Texas Jr. Golf Tour (TJGT) at Bridlewood. In addition, he finished tied for ninth in the Louisiana Jr. Amateur and tied for 18th at the Ping Invitational at Karsten Creek.
In 2019, Dupuy placed third at the TJGT at Bridlewood, 7th at the LJT Spring Preview, 9th at the Bubba Conlee and 10th at the AJGA at University Club.
"Ryan is an all-around fantastic player," said Brescher. "There are no weaknesses in his game, from solid ball striking, to great touch around the green, to his mental game and ability to handle pressure and win.
"We have been watching Ryan compete for multiple years now. You can always tell this kid has something special about him. That proved to be true with his breakout 2020 season and winning four times across the country. Ryan is also a fantastic student with his academics. He simply gets it done on and off the golf course, which is exactly what we are looking for in our student-athletes."
Guidry will come to Southern Miss from Picayune High School, where he ranks No. 2 in the 2021 Mississippi Rankings by the Junior Golf Scoreboard.
This year, Guidry captured the Allstate Sugar Bowl at Carter Plantation crown (68, 67), while finishing third in the Mississippi Junior Amateur and sixth in the Future Championships. He has three top 25 showings in AJGA competitions.
Guidry also captured the Millbrook Country Club championship in 2020 as well as 2019. His other top showings in 2019 included winning the Mississippi Junior Amateur (69, 76, 71), the Randy Watkins Junior (67, 72) as well as a second-place in the AJGT at Beaver Creek and a third-place in the Allstate Sugar Bowl Tommy Moore Invite.
His top 2018 finishes included second at the AJGT at Beaver Creek and a fourth-place showing at the Randy Watkins Junior.
"Cam is a tough kid who works as hard as anyone I have ever seen," said Brescher. "He has exceptional distance throughout his bag. Combining his distance and mental toughness, it makes him a force to be reckoned with on any course. Because of his work ethic, Cam has steadily improved every year of his junior golf career. He has constantly proved he can go low with his scoring in tournaments.
"Cam takes his academics just as serious as his golf game and gets it done in the classroom. I cannot wait for him to join our program and showcase his talents."
Brescher went on to say the duo are exactly the type of players that he likes to add to the Golden Eagle men's program.
"As I have previously said, we are looking for the best student-athlete in the world, who can help us win on the golf course and in the classroom," said Brescher. "Both Cam and Ryan fit this mold perfectly. These two players are very accomplished junior golfers who have traveled all over the country to gain experience and prepare them for division one college golf.
"We are also creating a team first culture in our program that is essential to our future success. Cam and Ryan have been close friends since a young age. Taking their friendship from junior golf and plugging it into our team culture at Southern Miss, will be a perfect fit for our team first culture. Adding these two players with the returning players we have for next season, and you can see why we are excited for the future of Southern Miss Golf."
