Southern Miss heads to UAB for Blazer Classic

HATTIESBURG, Miss.– The Southern Miss Cross Country team continues its season at the UAB Classic in Hoover, Ala. on Friday.
Blazer Classic
The Golden Eagles placed 2nd in the meet a season ago. Overall, five out of the 11 runners ran to new personal bests at UAB. The team finished with an average time of 21:23 and had a total of 94 points. Senior Sandra Szpott team, finishing in third place out of the 215 runners with a time of 20:52.26, a new personal best.
Last Time Out
The Southern Miss Cross Country team opened their season at the Florida State Invitational on Friday placing fifth as a team with 120 points and an average time of 18:52.1. In her Southern Miss debut, freshman Cassidy Teuscher led the way finishing seventh overall to pace the team.
The Breakdown
Making the trip to Tallahassee are eight student-athletes from the roster. Carlin Beal, Kaitlyn Cartwright, Kate Mattox, Hannah Martin, Cassidy Teuscher and Sarah Parnell will all look to improve upon their performances at the Florida State Invitational, while Sarah McMillon and Savannah McMillon will make their season debuts for the Golden Eagles.
Schools set to compete alongside the Golden Eagles are host UAB as well as Florida Atlantic, Middle Tennessee and Western Kentucky from Conference USA. Alabama-Huntsville, Arkansas, Arkansas State, Auburn, Augusta, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Georgia State, Georgia Tech, Jefferson State CC, Kentucky, Lee (TN), Louisville, Mercer, Mississippi State, Montevallo, Ole Miss, South Alabama, South Carolina, Tennessee, Troy, Valdosta State, Vanderbilt and Wallace State round out the competition.
