HATTIESBURG, Miss.-- The Southern Miss women's golf team will return to play for the first time in eight months when it takes part in the Lady Red Wolves Classic on Monday and Tuesday.
The two-day event at the Sage Meadows Country Club in Jonesboro, Ark., will have an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start on Monday. It is a par-72, 6,565-yard course. Live scoring is available via Golfstat.com.
This marks the start of Lucy Nunn's third year as the head coach. Previous seasons began in Knoxville (2019) and Gulf Shores (2018), with the latter seeing the team card a school-record 872.
Southern Miss will be represented by Valeria Pichardo, Merche Corbacho, Julie Baker, Tenley Moretti and Emily Cox. The field features Arkansas State (host), BYU, Central Arkansas, Chattanooga, Houston Baptist, Little Rock, Missouri State, Middle Tennessee, Stephen F. Austin, Southern Illinois, South Alabama, Troy, UAB and WKU.
Corbacho is the team's lone freshman. Baker (16 events) and Cox (15) have the most experience on the team. Moretti returns for her second season after transferring from Iowa State, and her 74 to start the final spring tournament (Allstate Sugar Bowl Invitational) was a career-low. Pichardo in that tournament, her 10th at Southern Miss, also carded a career-low 229.
