Southern Miss (9-3, 1-0) face the Miners (9-4, 2-0) in Reed Green after defeating them in a thriller on the road last season in mid-February.
Military Appreciation
Both the game against UTEP on Jan. 9 and the Jan. 11 matchup against UTSA are military appreciation games at Southern Miss. Retired and active military personnel are eligible for two free tickets when they show proof of identification at the ticket box office at Reed Green Coliseum.
The Lady Eagles come off a close win against LA Tech to start off league play in the win column, defeating the Lady Techsters 66-60. LA Tech had cut a 10-point lead down to three with 45 seconds to go in the fourth when Shonte Hailes shot a 3-ball to seal the deal with 16 seconds to go. The Lady Eagles had four score in double-digits on the evening, with senior Respect Leaphart leading the flock with a double-double. The Floridian had 15 points and 11 rebounds en route to her fourth-ever double-double. Allie Kennedy had a night as she scored 13 points of her own, six of which were from the arc. Alarie Mayze also had 13 points while Hailes put up 11.
The Miners are starting out Conference play strong, wtih two C-USA wins under their belt against the Florida schools. UTEP is led by senior Katarina Zec in points with 163 thus far. Senior Ariona Gill leads in rebounds with 109 and Katia Gallegos leads in assists with 55. Kevin Baker is at the helm of the program for his third season in El Paso. They were wiped out by injuries a year ago, but they have already matched last year's win total just 13 games into the 2019-20 season.
