Brandon, Miss. native Tay Collum and former Mississippi State Bulldog Sam Stiglmair are the latest additions to the Golden Eagles’ 2020 squad.
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss Head Women's Soccer Coach Mohammed El-Zare has announced the addition of two transfers to the Golden Eagles' 2020 squad. Brandon, Miss. native Tay Collum and former Mississippi State Bulldog Sam Stiglmair have already arrived on the Hattiesburg campus.
Collum, a midfielder/defender, comes to Southern Miss after spending time competing for the UAB Blazers. Collum sat out the 2019 season but appeared in 13 matches and made one start for the Blazers as a freshman in 2018. She earned the first start of her collegiate career against Auburn (August 24, 2018), logging a total of 53 minutes of playing time in the match. Collum registered a season-high 63 minutes of playing time against Middle Tennessee (October 27, 2018).
Prior to signing with UAB, Collum starred for Northwest Rankin High School (Flowood, Miss.) and Mississippi Rush 00 Girl's Premier.
During her time at Northwest Rankin, Collum played in 116 matches, scored 41 goals and recorded 19 assists. In addition, she served as a team captain for two seasons and helped the Cougars capture the 2017 MHSAA Class 6A Girl's Soccer State Championship, marking the school's first state title in girl's soccer. Between her high school and club accomplishments, Collum became one of the most decorated amateur players ever produced by the Magnolia State.
Collum's high school and club accolades
"Southern Miss is the perfect opportunity for me to continue my soccer career a little closer to home. I have been a Southern Miss fan since I was little and I cannot wait to be a part of the Golden Eagles' soccer team. I love Coach Mo and his coaching style, and I see myself fitting in with the team very well! SMTTT!"
El-Zare on the addition of Collum
"Tay comes from a family of Golden Eagles and she understands what it means to wear Southern Miss across her chest. Her desire and determination to compete is second to none. I look forward to her contributions to our back and midfield lines."
Stiglmair, a midfielder/defender, from Karlshuld, Germany is making the move to Southern Miss after a one-year stint at Mississippi State. During the 2019 season, the sophomore appeared in nine matches, logged 115 minutes of playing time, scored one goal and registered two points. Stiglmair's goal came in Mississippi State's match versus Alabama A&M (August 22, 2019), marking the first goal of her Mississippi State career. She registered a season-high 33 minutes of playing time versus UT Martin (September 5, 2019).
Before making her way to Starkville, Stiglmair played her freshman season (2018) at Shaw University (Raleigh, N.C.). At Shaw University, Stiglmair played in seven matches and earned five starts before being sidelined for the remainder of the season due to injury. Over the course of seven matches, she scored five goals, including two game-winning goals, recorded one assist and posted two multi-goal games. She also finished the season ranked in the top five on the team in points (11).
Like Collum, Stiglmair also posted an illustrious career at the youth level, competing for her high school squad Descartes-Gymnasium (Neuburg an der Donau, Germany) and her club squad FC Ingolstadt 04.
Stiglmair's club accolades
"I chose Southern Miss because I am impressed by the great future of this program and it's an environment that will help me to grow not only as a player but also as a person."
El-Zare on the addition of Stiglmair
"Sam is a cerebral player with a great eye for the game. Her positional movement will bring added sophistication to our attack. I am looking forward to integrating her into our team as quickly as possible."
