Kirk McCarty Set to Play in Arizona Fall League

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Former Southern Miss left-handed pitcher Kirk McCarty was recently chosen to play in the prestigious Arizona Fall League for the Mesa Solar Sox.
The league consists of six clubs and the Solar Sox roster consists of selected top minor league players from the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, Oakland Athletics, Chicago Cubs, Cleveland Indians and Detroit Tigers organizations. The home park for the Solar Sox is Sloan Park, the spring training home of the Cubs.
The AFL Opening Day is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 18, with the League concluding with the Championship Game on Saturday, Oct. 26 at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick. The 14th annual "Fall Stars Game" will be held on Saturday, Oct. 12, also at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick.
Additionally, AFL clubs will play 10 games against teams from the Mexican Pacific League while the Solar Sox will play two games in the Mexican Baseball Fiesta. All statistics in these games will count toward the players' official AFL season stats.
Despite missing a portion of the 2019 season with injury, the Hattiesburg native posted a 3-7 record for the Advanced A Lynchburg (Va.) Hillcats in the Indians organization. McCarty made 13 starts and posted 60 strikeouts with just 16 walks over 55 2/3 innings in 2019.
As a Golden Eagle, McCarty posted a 22-4 three-year record with a career 3.50 ERA for Southern Miss. He fanned 223 and walked just 64 over 239 career innings and made 45 appearance, including 41 starts. McCarty was chosen in the seventh round of the 2017 Major League Baseball's First-Year Player Draft by Cleveland.
