Volleyball to Open Conference USA Play at Marshall on Friday

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss (0-12, 0-0 C-USA) will open Conference USA play on Friday night against Marshall (9-4, 0-0 C-USA) in Huntington, W. Va. The Golden Eagles and Thundering Herd will begin play at 5 p.m. (CT) inside the Cam Henderson Center.

After six games in 10 days, the Golden Eagles got a much-needed break following a loss at LSU last Friday. Addie Ashton smashed a career-high nine kills on a .280 hitting clip when the Golden Eagles and Tigers met in Baton Rouge, La. The Indiana native also chipped in four digs to finish her career night. Freshman Liana Guillemaud was close behind Ashton with seven kills on 28 attempts.
Georgia native Summer Johnson dished out 22 assists, seven digs, and three kills. Lindsey Legg posted a team-high 16 digs while eight other Golden Eagles also recorded a dig. In total, seven Southern Miss players recorded a kill.

Marshall enters Friday's contest ranked fourth in the country in blocks per set, averaging a conference-best 3.04 blocks per set. Marshall's 140 total blocks slot them fourth in the country and first in the C-USA ranks.
Leading the charge at the net has been Isa Dostal (1.46) and Destiny Leon (1.39), who rank first and second in C-USA for blocks per set, respectively. The duo has combined for 131 blocks, which puts them at No. 12 and No. 16 in the country. Offensively, Ciara DeBell has a team-high 195 kills and ranks third in C-USA for that category.
Overall, Marshall has notable wins over Georgetown, Stony Brook, Saint Louis, and Eastern Kentucky this season. Like Southern Miss, the Thundering Herd have not played since their sweep of Southeastern Louisiana last Friday.
