Volleyball Preps for Battle Against Georgia State in First Round of Sun Belt Tournament Play

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss Volleyball prepares to battle against Georgia State in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament. The match will begin at 1:30 p.m. CST and is available on ESPN+ to view.
The Golden Eagles (16-11, 8-8 SBC) battle Georgia State (18-9, 9-7 SBC) after earning two 3-1 matches against Marshall. Libero Sunni Sheppard and Gaby Zovko reached career milestones, with Sheppard earning her 1000th career dig and Zovko posting her 2000th career assist.
Nationally, Southern Miss ranks ninth in the nation and leads the Sun Belt with 17.18 digs per set. Following Sheppard's performance in the back row over the weekend, she lands in 46th in the nation with 4.50 digs per set. Botkin ranks 28th in the nation this week in aces per set with 0.46. In the Sun Belt, the team is first in the with 17.18 digs per set and second in the conference in aces per set with 1.76.
For the 2025 season, McAda leads Southern Miss with 361 total kills, while Durgens has 563 assists and Botkin has 42 service aces. Defensively, Sheppard has earned 432 digs while freshman Stewart has earned 68.0 blocks.
The Panthers head into the match after a 2-0 series against ULM in the final week of Sun Belt play. They are led by Flavia Siqueria, who is in her second season at Georgia State.
