BATON ROUGE, La. – In its final tune-up match before Conference USA play begins next week, the Southern Miss (0-12, 0-0 C-USA) women's volleyball team fell in three sets (15-25, 13-25, 16-25) at LSU (6-3, 0-0 SEC) on Friday night.Â
After LSU opened an early lead in the first set, Southern Miss was unable to muster any type of comeback and the Tigers took the set, 25-15. The Tigers opened another early lead in the second set but this time the Golden Eagles were able to pull within three points after a Liana Guillemaud kill. However, the Tigers used a 7-2 run to close out the set and take a two-set lead.
The Golden Eagles fell behind early in the third set while LSU opened a five-point lead. The LSU lead grew, and Southern Miss ultimately fell by a 25-16 score.
Freshman Summer Johnson finished three digs shy of a double-double, tallying 22 assists, 7 digs, and three kills. Sophomore Addie Ashton dished out a team-high nine kills with a .280 hitting clip. Defensively, redshirt freshman Lindsey Legg grabbed 16 digs and three assists. Guillemaud continued her hot stretch as she smacked seven kills.
