
Matt Wallner Signs with Minnesota Twins

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Matt Wallner, a three-year All-American for the Southern Miss program, signed today with the Minnesota Twins to start his professional baseball career.
Wallner, who collected his fifth All-American accolade over the weekend with a second-team honor by the American Baseball Coaches Association, was the No. 39 overall pick in a supplemental first-round selection. His pick was the highest in the history of the Southern Miss baseball program.
The Forest Lake, Minn.., will play for his hometown organization that originally drafted him in the 32nd round in the 2017 draft.
In 189 career games over three seasons for the Golden Eagles, Wallner posted a career .337 batting average with 39 doubles, two triples, a school-record 58 home runs and 190 RBI. In addition, he posted a school-record 141 career walks over his three-year career.
