Southern Miss Softball Travels to Mobile for Wednesday Night Matchup Against South Alabama

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss Golden Eagles (18-16, 5-7 C-USA) will travel to Mobile, Ala. to battle the South Alabama Jaguars (12-20, 2-10 Sun Belt) in a midweek contest on Wednesday, April 3. The first pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. (CT) at Jaguar Field.
The last time on the diamond
The last time that Southern Miss stepped on the diamond, they came away with a 5-0 win over C-USA foe Marshall in the series finale at the Southern Miss Softball Complex on Sunday afternoon.
Junior right-handed pitcher Abby Trahan had an outstanding performance in the circle for the Golden Eagles in the contest. Trahan tossed a complete-game shutout, allowed just one hit, struck out eight, did not issue any walks and collected her eighth win of the season.
Redshirt sophomore Amber Pack paced the Golden Eagles' offense. The former Brandon High School standout went 2-for-3 at the plate with two runs batted in. Pack notched the hit of the game in the bottom of the second inning after blasting a two-run two-out double to deep left field to put the Golden Eagles on top, 2-0.
Noteworthy moments
Pack's 2-for-3 performance against Marshall on Sunday marked her first multi-hit game of the 2019 season.
Pack was also the only Southern Miss player to record a multi-hit game on Sunday.

South Alabama leads the all-time series 15-4-1. The Golden Eagles are 3-5-1 when facing the Jaguars in Hattiesburg, 1-8 in road matchups in Mobile and 0-2 in neutral site contests.
The last meeting between the two
The last meeting between the Southern Miss and South Alabama softball teams occurred earlier in the year when the two teams faced each other in a midweek game in Hattiesburg on March 19. The Jaguars won the game by a final score of 4-0.
The opponent
Head Coach Becky Clark leads the South Alabama softball program. Clark has been the Jaguars' head coach ever since the program began in 2007.
South Alabama traveled to Boone, N.C. this past weekend to take on Appalachian State in a three-game Sun Belt series.
Appalachian State won the series, 2-1. The Mountaineers took a 5-1 decision in game one and a 5-2 decision in game three. The Jaguars captured the win in game two by a final score of 14-5 (five innings).
Local ties
Southern Miss junior shortstop and freshman pitcher Makenna Pierce are products of the Mobile Bay area.
Sumerlin, a native of Mobile, Ala. prepped at Baker High School where she was a standout for the Hornets on the softball field. Sumerlin racked up numerous awards over the course of her high school career including: Alabama's Gatorade Player of the Year (2014-2015), Mobile County Player of the Year, Alabama's Miss Softball, All-County, All-Region and All-State.
In addition, Sumerlin was also an All-Star selection and a three-year letter winner.
Pierce, a Daphne, Ala. native spent her high school career starring for the Daphne High School Trojans. The right-handed pitcher finished her career at Daphne High School with an overall record of 111-26 and an astonishing 0.84 ERA.
Like Sumerlin, Pierce garnered her fair share of awards during her high school career. At Daphne High School, Pierce earned NFCA All-American honors, was named Alabama 6A Pitcher of the Year for the 2017 and 2018 seasons, was tabbed a Super All-State, All-State and All-State Tournament selection and she also lettered in softball six times.
