Southern Miss Softball Prepares for a Pair of Midweek Matchups

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Fresh off of a weekend series sweep against UAB, the Southern Miss softball team (26-16, 11-7 C-USA) is now preparing for a pair of midweek matchups.
Southern Miss will host Southland Conference opponent Nicholls (26-16, 15-13 Southland Conference) on Tuesday, April 16 at the Southern Miss Softball Complex in Hattiesburg. The first pitch of Tuesday's contest between the Golden Eagles and the Colonels is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. (CT).
After hosting Nicholls on Tuesday, Southern Miss will hit the road and travel to Lake Charles, La. to take on another member of the Southland Conference, McNeese State (23-22, 14-4 Southland Conference) on Wednesday, April 17. Wednesday night's game will be played at Joe Miller Field. The first pitch is set for 6:00 p.m. (CT).
The last time on the diamond
This past weekend, Southern Miss traveled to Birmingham, Ala. for a three-game C-USA series against UAB. Southern Miss swept the series with scores of 2-0, 7-4 and 4-0 in games one, two and three respectively.
After sweeping UAB over the weekend, Southern Miss currently finds themselves sitting in fourth place in the C-USA standings.
Noteworthy moments
Nicholls leads the all-time series with an overall record of 41-13. Southern Miss is 8-20 when hosting Nicholls in Hattiesburg, 2-15 in contests played in Thibodaux and 3-6 in neutral site matchups.
Southern Miss leads the all-time series against McNeese State with an overall record of 24-11. The Golden Eagles are 12-4 when facing the Cowgirls at home in Hattiesburg, 7-5 in games played in Lake Charles and 5-2 in neutral site contests.

The Southern Miss and Nicholls softball teams have already squared off against each other once this season. The Golden Eagles and the Colonels met in a midweek contest at Swanner Field in Thibodaux on February 13. The Colonels won the contest by a final score of 4-1.
The last time that Southern Miss and McNeese State met on the softball diamond was on February 18, 2018. The game was part of the Black and Gold Invitational hosted by Southern Miss in Hattiesburg. McNeese State took the contest with a 5-2 decision.

Nicholls is led by eighth-year Head Coach Angel Santiago. In their last series, the Colonels swept the Houston Baptist Huskies.
McNeese State is led by Head Coach James Landreneau who is currently in his third season at the helm of the program. McNeese State swept Central Arkansas in three-game series this past weekend.
