Baseball Falls to FIU 16-6 Saturday to Drop Series

The Golden Eagles (20-12, 10-4 C-USA) lost its third game in a row as they dropped their second consecutive road series.
Austin Shenton led the Panthers with four hits and two RBI. Jose Garcia added three hits and four RBI, while Adan Fernandez collected three hits and a pair of RBI.
FIU (15-19, 6-8) jumped out early with four runs off of Golden Eagle starter Stevie Powers (2-3), who gave up back-to-back singles to open the game. After a sacrifice bunt and two-run triple, Garcia put the Panthers up for good with a two-run homer to left for his sixth of the year.
After adding an unearned run in the second frame, the Golden Eagles rallied with a pair of runs in the third. Gabe Montenegro opened the frame with a walk, Danny Lynch extended his hitting streak to nine games with a run-scoring double. After a groundout, Hunter LeBlanc doubled in the second run.
The score remained that way until the fifth.
With one out, Lynch singled and then went to third off a Will McGillis double that kicked off the third base bag, but LeBlanc and Matthew Guidry stuckout to end the frame.
The Panthers then registered five runs in the bottom of the frame, before adding another solo run in the seventh and five more tallies in the eighth.
Matt Wallner drove in a run in the eighth for the Golden Eagles with a groundout, and the visitors added three more runs in the ninth on a two-run single by Guidry and a RBI single from Bowen, who finished with three hits to extend his hitting streak to 16 games.
Nick MacDonald registered the victory and improved to 2-3 by limiting the Golden Eagles to two runs on six hits and walk with nine strikeouts over seven innings.
Powers went four-plus innings and gave up six runs (five earned) on seven hits and fanned three to suffer the loss.
The two teams conclude the series Sunday with a 12 noon ET first pitch.
