Southern Miss Softball Begins C-USA Play at North Texas

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss Golden Eagles (10-8) will travel to Denton, Texas for their first C-USA series of the 2019 season.

Southern Miss will square off against North Texas (11-8) in a doubleheader on Saturday, March 9 beginning at 1:00 p.m. (CT). The doubleheader will be followed by a single game at 12:00 p.m. (CT) on Sunday, March 10. The games will be played at Lovelace Stadium.

The last time on the diamond
The Southern Miss softball team was originally scheduled to play a midweek contest against Southeastern Louisiana on Wednesday, March 6 in Hammond, La. but the game was cancelled due to unplayable field conditions.

Breaking down the all-time record
North Texas currently leads the all-time series 7-5. The Golden Eagles are 4-2 in contests played in Hattiesburg and 1-5 when facing the Mean Green in Denton. The two teams have never met at a neutral site.

The last meeting
The last time that Southern Miss and North Texas faced each other on the diamond, it was in a three-game series (April 28-29, 2018) at the Southern Miss Softball Complex.

The Mean Green won the series, 3-1. The Golden Eagles took the first game of the series, 2-0 but dropped the final two contests by scores of 8-1 and 2-0.

The opponent
North Texas is led by first-year head coach Rodney DeLong. DeLong comes to North Texas after a five-year stint at Austin Peay University.

North Texas' last outing came in the Texas Tech Tournament in Lubbock, Texas (March 1-2). The Mean Green posted a record of 1-3 in the tournament.
