MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- The Southern Miss women's golf team has reached the Volunteer State as it prepares for the two-day Memphis Intercollegiate. There will be 36 holes Monday followed by the final round Tuesday, both with an 8:30 a.m. CT shotgun start and live scoring available on GolfStat.com.Â
The action will be held at the par-71, 6,105-yard Ridgeway Country Club. This will mark the team's penultimate event before heading to the Conference USA Championships (April 15-17) in Fort Myers, Fla.
Participating teams include Arkansas State, UAB, Central Arkansas, Little Rock, Marshall, Memphis (host), Middle Tennessee, Missouri State, No. 51Â Penn State, Toledo, Troy and WKU. The Tigers defended their home during the last edition of this tournament (Oct. 17-18, 2016), winning the title with an 895.
Southern Miss, coming off a 13th-place finish at the MountainView Collegiate in Arizona, will be represented by Valentina Haupt, Miranda Holt, Friend Chompitakdacha, Valeria Pichardo and Henriette Syr.
Haupt remains the only Golden Eagle to have competed in every tournament this season. Her 75.57 stroke average trails only Syr (75.43). Haupt shot a 69 in the second round of the MountainView Collegiate, matching the second-best of her career.
Chompitakdacha has appeared in each spring tournament so far after joining the team in-between semesters. The freshman has done a stellar job adjusting to the new scenery, even carding an even-72 in the final round of the MountainView, a career-low. Pichardo will make her third appearance of the year as well.
Holt, the team's only senior besides Haupt, has played in five tournaments so far and has improved her score over the last four (236-232-227-226), with the last coming at the MountainView.
