Men's Tennis Drops Heartbreaker to New Mexico State

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- It was a toasty Sunday on the Southern Miss tennis courts, but New Mexico State was able to rally late in singles to edge the host Golden Eagles, 4-3.
It was a rare contest between the Golden Eagles an a western opponent. The Aggies resume their Gulf trip with matches at New Orleans and Nicholls the next two days.
The Aggies' Louis Menard was able to get past Chung-Han Tsai in an epic battle to end the day, 6-1, 5-7, 6-2. It took every ounce of energy on both sides.
The bright sides included the Golden Eagles' continued improvement in doubles. The squad started the year 7-14 in that category, but has since gone 8-3. Tsai and Tom Cecchetto improved to 3-1 as a duo, while Youssef Tamimount and Matthieu Peres each moved to 3-0 together.
Jorman Reyes rallied from a 6-1 defeat in his first set to control the rest of the way to a victory on No. 2. Tamimount was also clutch in continuing play with a 6-4, 6-3 sweep of his foe in what was his first singles action of the season. Reyes' stellar play moved him to 7-2 on the season.
Southern Miss (7-6) will have its Senior Day on Friday at 3 p.m. CT against Prairie View A&M. The squad will recognize Reyes, Tamimount and Teeradon Tortrakul prior to play.
