Lady Eagles Set to Host Nicholls for WBI

Tip is set for 6pm on Thursday in Reed Green Coliseum.
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Lady Eagles are ready to continue postseason play in the WBI, hosting the Nicholls Colonels on Thursday in Reed Green Coliseum, with tip set for 6pm.
The Lady Eagles (17-13, 9-8) take on the Colonels (20-11, 14-4) to keep postseason play rolling. The last time these two met was in December of 2014. Southern Miss has a winning streak of three against Nicholls. Against the Colonels on their home court, the Lady Eagles are 8-0. This will be the first postseason game between the two.Â
The Colonels last time out ended in a 56-69 loss to Texas A&M – Corpus Christi in the Southland Conference Tournament, held in Katy, Texas at the Merrell Center. The Lady Eagles are coming off a three-point loss to the North Texas Mean Green in the first round of the Conference USA Championships at the Star in Frisco, Texas. Southern Miss did not see postseason action last year. This will be the first time the Lady Eagles have played in the WBI.Â
Nicholls is led by head coach DoBee Plaisance, who is in her 11th season with the Colonels. Plaisance graduated from Southern Miss in 1986, and worked for the Lady Eagles as a student assistant. Joye Lee-McNelis, the head coach for the Lady Eagles, graduated from Southern Miss in 1984.Â
Southern Miss has been led in points and assists by Shonte Hailes all season; a Lady Eagle who has been called a "must-watch" player. Hailes is averaging 12.7 points and 4.4 assists per game. The redshirt freshman Kelsey Jones continues to be a force on the boards, leading in rebounds all season. She averages five rebounds per game.Â
