PERKINSTON, Miss. - The Southern Miss women's tennis team found their seventh win of the season on Saturday morning after sweeping Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. The Golden Eagles (7-1) found a point early after Katia de la Garza and Monique Burton rolled through Destiny Davis and Chloe Fell, 6-1. Rikeetha Pereira and Ebru Zeynep Yazgan secured the doubles point with a 6-3 win on court one.
The Golden Eagles got two points right away after the Bulldogs had to forfeit at the No. 6 and No. 5 pairings. Monique Burton found herself with a 6-0, 6-0 win on court one against Fell. Anastasija Cobanovic followed with another win on court three after defeating Destiny Davis 6-0, 6-0. Tjasa Jerse continues to climb the Southern Miss win ranks after defeating Megan Bankston via a 6-0, 6-0 score.
Pereira filled in at the No. 1 pairing for the Golden Eagles and responded with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Margoreta Loperova. In total, the Golden Eagles lost only five sets on the day and only one set in singles play.
The Golden Eagles return to action on March 11 against Incarnate Word. That match starts a three-game road trip in the state of Texas.
