Southern Miss Takes on UTSA for Senior Day

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Lady Eagles look to continue their three-game winning streak against UTSA at home on Saturday afternoon, with tip-off set for 4pm in Reed Green Coliseum. Southern Miss will finish out their home schedule against UTSA.
Southern Miss is touting a three-game winning streak, with defeats of UTSA and UTEP on the road and a home LA Tech win under its belt. The Lady Eagles posted a 70-45 win against UTSA on Valentine's Day in San Antonio in the Convocation Center, and look to do the same on their home court on Saturday.
Senior Day – Megan Brown Day
The game Saturday will also serve as Senior Day for the Lady Eagles, with Megan Brown being honored postgame for her outstanding career at Southern Miss. The senior from Slidell, La., has played in every game possible with the Lady Eagles, and started in every game since her redshirt-sophomore year. She is in the No. 2 spot for career games played at Southern Miss with 127 games. She has the third-longest consecutive start streak for the Lady Eagles, starting in 91 straight games. She is only 11 points away from becoming a member of the 1,000 point club, sitting at 989 career points with a total of 269 this season. She has played a total of 3,069 minutes of basketball as a Lady Eagle. This season, she has scored in double-figures 13 times, rebounded in double-figures three times, had two double-doubles, and had one game with five or more assists. She has led her team in points four times this season, led in rebounds seven times, and led in assists three times. In 11 games this season, she was 100 percent from the free throw line. She was also named to the All-Classic Team of the Lady Eagle Thanksgiving Classic this year. Not only has she excelled on the court, she has also excelled in the classroom. Brown has earned herself the Comissioner's Medal from C-USA three times and been named to the Dean's list at Southern Miss. She has earned her bachelor's degree in communication and she is working on a master's degree in kinesiology.

Former Lady Eagle and crucial member of the Southern Miss community, Shirley Jones-Hill, will be recognized at halftime for all her contributions to Golden Eagle Athletics for National Girls and Women in Sports Day. Hill, who was a member of the Lady Eagle basketball team from 1977-81, was the first recruit for long time head coach Kay James. Hill is a member of the Lady Eagles' 1,000 point club, posting 1,025 points in her career. She continues to hold the season record for steals with 116, also the most by a sophomore, which she swiped in the 1978-79 season. She holds the record for most steals by a senior with 106 in the 1980-81 season. After her prestigious career playing basketball for Southern Miss, she turned to coaching. She was a graduate assistant coach for her alma mater from 1981-83 before becoming assistant coach the next year. She coached until the 1987-88 season. She then joined the Athletics Communications Staff for the Golden Eagles, eventually earning herself a 25 Years of Service Award from the College Sports Information Directors of America at their annual convention in 2012. She is the mother of two Golden Eagle alumni, who both followed in her athletic footsteps playing softball for Southern Miss.
