Golden Eagles Thrive at Music City Challenge

Several new school records and personal records were set at the meet hosted by Vanderbilt.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Southern Miss track & field sang to the tune of new school records and personal bests at the Music City Invitational held by Vanderbilt. Caleb Parker, Eric Washington and Sandra Szpott all had standout days in Tennessee for the Golden Eagles.

"We're trying to get better as a team each week, and we did just that this weekend. Two school records and multiple seasons and personal bests give us great momentum heading into the Conference Championships next week."

"Sandra ran a really smart, well executed race today. She found her rhythm and positioning early, which gave herself a shot to finish the last half really strong. Very proud of all the work she's done to get herself ready for these types of moments, and hopefully this is the first of many great races for her this spring."
Caleb Parker finished first in the 60mH with a time of 7.73, a new school record.
Sandra Szpott broke the school record for the indoor mile with a time of 4:49.56.
McKinely West finished first in the 60m with a time of 6.68.
Eric Washington had a new personal record in the long jump with a distance of 7.47m.

Men
60m – McKinely West placed first with a time of 6.68, just .04 away from tying his career-best.
60mH – Caleb Parker finished in first place with a time of 7.73, breaking his previous school record.
400m – Trey Johnson came in at 11th place with a time of 48.33, and his teammate Lorenzen Burton finished in 21st with a time of 49.30. Mamadou Seck was came in 25th at 49.70 and Dexter Molden finished at 37th in 52.13. This was Molden's first time running in the 400m.
High Jump – Caleb Parker finished in second place with a jump of 2.12m (6'11.5"). Eric Richards came in sixth with a jump of 2.07m (6'9.5").
Long Jump – Eric Washington finished with a new personal record, coming in fifth place with a distance of 7.47m (24'6.25"). Chedlin Sagesse came in sixth with a distance of 7.36m (24'1.75").
Women
60m – Kadaria Thompson placed 21st with a time of 7.77, Jasmine Griffin finished in 23rd with a time of 7.81, and Shundoria Hardy was 29th at 7.88.
400m – Chenelle Ricketts came in 12th with a time of 56.13, and Ola Akinniyi, in her first meet with the track and field team, finished in 32nd with a time of 1:01.40.
800m – Regen McGee finished in 25th at 2:16.23, a new personal best. Sarah McMillon came in 27th at 2:16.55, a personal best for her as well.
1 mile – Sandra Szpott broke the school record for the 1 mile, finishing in 11th place with a time of 4:49.56. Monika Gebarzewska finished 34th with a time of 5:03.92, a new personal best. Savannah McMillon came in 37th at 5:06.38, her personal best.
3000m – Victoria Hoppe finished in 40th place with a time of 10:22.60, and Madeleine Bell came in 49th at 10:39.36, a new personal best for the senior.
4x400m – Rian Robinson, Chenelle Ricketts, Taylor Harris and Aireanna Taylor were the relay team for Southern Miss. They came in sixth place with a time of 3:48.02.
High Jump – Jamari Drake came in 13th place with a distance of 1.66m (5'5.25").
Long Jump – Rikianne Patterson finished in sixth with a jump of 6.03m (19'9.5").
Triple Jump – Marquasha Myers came in 12th with a jump of 11.91m (39'1"). Callie Jones finished in 16th place with a distance of 11.74m (38'6.25").
