Southern Miss looks to add another win in conference.
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Lady Eagles of Southern Miss head to Ruston, La. to take on LA Tech in a Saturday afternoon game. Tip off at Thomas Assembly Center is set for 2pm.
Southern Miss (13-10, 5-5) takes on the Lady Techsters (12-11, 4-6) for the 15th time in program history on Saturday, and the 10th time in Thomas Assembly Center. LA Tech leads the series both overall and when playing on their home court, 8-6 and 6-3, respectively. However, the Lady Eagles look to change those numbers by one in their favor. Southern Miss is just one ahead of LA Tech in the Conference USA standings, with the Lady Eagles sitting at seventh overall out of the 14 members. The Lady Techsters are on a two-game winning streak, but the Lady Eagles have been hot for four games and have held their last six opponents to under 60 points.Â
Shonte Hailes has been on fire in the last few games for USM, posting 20-point games against FIU and Florida Atlantic. She continues to lead the team in assists as she has done all season, now up to 97 total. Those 97 bring her career total to 343 which comes in at No. 12 on the all-time career assists list at Southern Miss. Kennedy Gavin showed out against FAU, posting a career-high 14 points against the Owls. Megan Brown also continues to shine, now with 238 points this season. She's led the team all season in points, and she's brought her career total to 958, a mere 42 points from joining the 1,000-point club. She has also started in 87 consecutive games and is moving up on the career games played list for USM, sitting at No. 5 with 123 games. Kelsey Jones has barely faltered from her seat as the team's leader in rebounds, currently with 119 boards to her name. She has had three double-doubles this season, the third-most of any freshman in C-USA behind FIU's Ce'Nara Skanes (five) and ODU's Ajah Wayne (four). The Lady Eagles continue to lead the Conference in rebounding defense, rebounding margin and defensive rebounding percentage, with Kelsey Jones still leading in field goal percentage.Â
