Southern Miss Wraps Up McCravy Memorial Invitational at Kentucky

The Golden Eagles came away with several first-place finishes and personal bests.
LEXINGTON, Ky.– The Golden Eagles came away from the McCravy Memorial Invitational at the University of Kentucky with several first-place finishes and top-10 marks under their belts.Â
Zaria Jones notched a first-place finish in the women's high jump with a mark of 1.66m (5'7"), and Sandra Szpott finished first in the women's 3000m, the first of her young career, with a time of 9:56.16.
Seven Golden Eagle track and field women finished the meet with new personal bests, as did two on the men's side. Several of Southern Miss' student-athletes competed in their respective disciplines for the first time, including but not limited to Lina May for the 5000m, Christian Strong in the 200m, and Sandra Szpottin the 3000m.

Women
High Jump | Zaria Jones won first place with a mark of 1.66m (5'7"), and her teammate Jamari Drake finished tied for third with a mark of 1.61m (5'3.25").
Weight Throw | Danisha Jones finished in fifth place with a throw of 18.53m (60'9.5"). McKenna Mumaw came in 12th place with a throw of 13.31m (43'8"), a personal best for the Southern Miss newcomer.
Long Jump | Marquasha Myers was the lone competitor for Southern Miss, and she finished with a new PR of 5.55m (18'2.5"). She placed sixth in her discipline.
200m | Kadaria Thompson, Keiyana Gaskin, Chenelle Ricketts and Jasmine Griffin all competed for the Golden Eagles. Gaskin came in eighth place with a time of 24.52, Ricketts finished in 11th place at 24.84, Thompson came in 28thplace at 25.74 and Griffin finished in 25.74, her personal-best, in 29th.
600m | Taylor Harris was the single competitor for Southern Miss in her discipline, and she finished with a new personal-best of 1:38.19, putting her in seventh place.
5000m | Lina May competed in her first indoor 5000m race, placing second overall with a time of 17:45.70. Her teammates Emma Kate Holdbrooks and Theresa Harto were not far behind, with Holdbrooks finishing in third and Harto in fourth. Holdbrooks finished with a time of 17:53.19, a personal-best for the redshirt sophomore, and Harto had a time of 18:02.72.
1 mile | Regen McGee finished in third with a time of 4:58.28, with Monika Gebarzewska coming in eighth at 5:04.65 and Sarah McMillon in 10th at 5:06.78.Â
3000m | Sandra Spott came in first place in her first 3000m ever, with a time of 9:56.16. Kate Mattox was just behind her in third at 10:02.Â
400m | Rian Robinson came in fifth at 55.36, Chenelle Ricketts in sixth at 55.82, Aireanna Taylor in 16th at 58.74 and Taylor Harris in 17th at 59.43.
4x400 | The first relay race of the year for the women ended in a fourth place finish at 3:52.05 with a team comprised of Rian Robinson, Chenelle Ricketts, Aireanna Taylor and Taylor Harris.
Shot Put |Â Danisha Jones finished in sixth with a throw of 14.76m (48'5.25").
Men
High Jump | Eric Richards finished in second place with a jump of 2.11m (6'11").
Long Jump | John Warren finished in second place with a jump of 7.46m (24'5.75"). Chedlin Sagesse wasn't far behind, finishing fourth with a jump of 7.31m (23'11.75"). In seventh was Eric Washington, finishing with a jump of 7.18m (23'6.75").Â
Weight Throw | Thomas Peters was the lone competitor for the Golden Eagles and finished in fourth with a throw of 13.87m (45'6.25").
200m | McKinely West came in third place with a time of 21.06, with teammates Trey Johnson finishing in 22nd at 22.17 and Christian Strong in 36th at  23.52. It was a new personal best for both Johnson and Strong.
60m |Â McKinely West finished in second place with a time of 6.65.
60mH| Christian Strong finished in sixth place with a time of 8.13, a new personal best.
400m| Trey Johnson came in 10th at 48.46, with Lorenzen Burton finishing in 23rd at 49.89 and Mamadou Seck in 24th at 50.08.Â
4x400| The first meet competing in the 4x400 for the Golden Eagles, Southern Miss placed fourth with a time of 3:12.26. The team was comprised of McKinely West, Trey Johnson, Mamadou Seck, and Lorenzen Burton.
