Men's Tennis Drops Hard-Fought Match at UAB

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Southern Miss' season-opening win streak came to a two-match end when it fell 4-1 at UAB on Sunday afternoon.
Matthieu Peres, a freshman from France, made his first collegiate appearance after formally joining the team this weekend and earned the team's lone point with a 6-4, 6-0 win on No. 3 singles. Four of the six singles matches on the day went to a third set, two of which left unfinished.
Jorman Reyes and Ronit Bisht remained perfect in doubles with a 6-1 victory, but the Blazers' 7-5 win on No. 3 put the Golden Eagles behind early.
Southern Miss went 4-1 against C-USA teams last year and had won four of its last six against rival UAB, which improved to 4-3.
The Golden Eagles now prepare for two road contests in Louisiana, first facing LSU on Friday and then UL Lafayette on Saturday.
