Southern Miss Softball Set to Host Southern University in Midweek Matchup

The Golden Eagles and the Jaguars will square off at 6:00 p.m. (CT) on Wednesday, February 27.
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss softball team (8-5) will play host to Southern University (2-11) in a midweek matchup on Wednesday, February 27 beginning at 6:00 p.m. (CT) at the Southern Miss Softball Complex.
Wednesday's meeting in Hattiesburg will mark the sixth between the two schools on the softball field.
The last time on the diamond
The Golden Eagles last took the diamond on Sunday when they faced Jacksonville State in a doubleheader at Choccolocco Park in Oxford, Ala. Jacksonville State won game one by a final score of 5-4, courtesy of a Taylor Beshears walk-off double.
Southern Miss bounced back in game two as they scored 10 runs on 10 hits, earning a 10-4 victory over Jacksonville State.
Noteworthy moments
Southern Miss outfielders Kaitlyn Passeau and Caroline Casey achieved career milestones on Sunday when they collected the first hits of their Southern Miss careers.
Passeau, a freshman outfielder from Lucedale, Miss. earned the first hit of her Southern Miss career after smashing a two-run two-out single to left field in game one to tie the game 2-2 in the top of the second inning.
