HATTIESBURG, Miss. - With plenty of rest under its legs, the Southern Miss women's tennis team heads to South Alabama (9-0, 0-0 Sun Belt) for a 12 p.m. match on Saturday. The Golden Eagles (6-0, 0-0 C-USA) were last on the court just under a week ago when they easily defeated Troy on the road.Â
Katia de la Garza has paced the Golden Eagles thus far with five wins to open up her sophomore campaign. The Mexico native is projected to compete at No. 4 singles against the Jaguars, who are currently 8-1 at that position. At the first three pairings, Southern Miss is a combined 11-1 in 2019.Â
Freshman Ebru Zeynep Yazgan has also been a standout for the Golden Eagles at the bottom of the order. The Turkey native has four wins at singles and five at doubles. On the opposite side, senior Tjasa Jerse has three wins and continues to climb the Southern Miss ranks for all-time wins.  Â
The Golden Eagles are 14-2 in doubles and have taken the doubles point in each of their first six matches. The trio of de la Garza, Monique Burton, and Tanit Lopez have all split time at No. 3 doubles en route to posting a 5-0 record.Â

The Jaguars head into Saturday with an unblemished record, which has been backed by a combined 32-3 start from Yu Fujioka, Milka Pasanen, Nikola Kohoutova, Patricia Martins, Diana Mansalve, and Alexandria Stiteler. South Alabama defeated the Golden Eagles last year after leaving Hattiesburg with a 4-1 win. The Jaguars have snagged 20 wins at the doubles position this year, which is six more than the Golden Eagles have.Â
First serve is set for 12 p.m. in Mobile, Alabama. The Golden Eagles will return to action after this match on March 2, when they travel to Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.Â
