HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- Two exciting challenges await the Southern Miss men's tennis team this weekend, as the Golden Eagles travel to No. 20 LSU for a Saturday 10 a.m. match, followed by one at Nicholls State Sunday at 11:30 a.m. CT.
Jorman Reyes and Ronit Bisht are 3-1 in doubles this year and will look to keep up the momentum. Southern Miss has experimented with multiple lineups on each of the six singles courts through the early season. This also marks the fourth and fifth consecutive road contests for the Golden Eagles, having previously played road/neutral matches with UAB, UL Lafayette and UT Rio Grande Valley.
Southern Miss will also look to continue seeing the growth of newcomers Matthieu Peres and Youssef Tamimout.
The Tigers are 9-1 this year (only loss to No. 39 Penn State) and boast the nation's No. 30 doubles pair, Rafael Wagner and Joey Thomas. This is the first matchup between the schools since Feb. 2014. LSU finished No. 7 in the 2018 ITA Southern Region, one spot ahead of the Golden Eagles.
Southern Miss defeated Nicholls 6-1 last season and 7-0 the previous year. The Colonels are riding a two-match win streak after knocking off Prairie View A&M and Jackson State. Tobias Lentz and Alvaro Barranco Vilatella each have a team-high three singles wins.
The next home match is Sunday, March 3 against Delta State.
