HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Head Coach Steve Schram and the Southern Miss women's tennis team has announced its 2020 schedule. The Golden Eagles will play host to 18 home matches at the Southern Miss Tennis Facility.
The 18 home dates will be spread out over three homestands. The shortest homestand, a five-game stretch that runs Jan. 24- Feb. 15, will see Florida A&M, New Orleans, West Alabama (DII), Delta State (DII), and Nicholls State come to Hattiesburg. After a brief road swing, Southern Miss will return home to open a seven-match homestand on Feb. 28 against Jackson State. Joining Jackson State in Hattiesburg during that stretch is Alcorn State, Troy, Jacksonville State, Mississippi Valley State, Xavier (NAIA), and South Alabama. On March 22, Southern Miss will host Arkansas-Pine Bluff to open a six-match homestand to close out the regular season. Prior to an April 11 contest against Tulane, Southern Miss will host Arkansas State, Southern, UAB, and LA Tech.
With UAB and LA Tech coming to town, it's the first time since 2015 that Southern Miss has a pair of C-USA teams on its home court.
Road Slate
The Golden Eagles will play on the road just four times, which includes three neutral site matches. On Jan. 21, Southern Miss opens its 2020 campaign against Prairie View A&M in New Orleans, La. The Golden Eagles hit the road again on Feb. 21 when they head to Northwestern State for a nonconference match. The following day, Southern Miss will remain in Natchitoches, La. to take on UTSA. That marks the first of three C-USA contests for the Golden Eagles in the regular season. Southern Miss will meat Missouri State in New Orleans, La. to close out its regular season road slate on March 21.
The C-USA Championships, hosted by FIU, will take place April 16-19 in Miami, Fla.
"I'm excited to get my second season at Southern Miss underway," Schram said. "We have a tough schedule that will challenge the girls every time they hit the court. I also look forward to seeing our new players grow throughout the season."
