
Golden Eagles Set for Final Road Contest of the Season

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -Â The Southern Miss women's volleyball team will travel to LA Tech on Sunday afternoon for its final road contest of the 2019 season. First serve at the Thomas Assembly Center is scheduled for 1 p.m.
The Last Time Out
The Golden Eagles opened the road swing on Friday night at UAB, falling in straight sets (23-25, 20-25, 21-25) . Sophomore Kinsley Hanback paced Southern Miss with a game-high 14 kills and a .417 hitting percentage. The Golden Eagles blazed out to an early lead in the first set before UAB was able to get a handle on Southern Miss' early success. From there, UAB flipped the script and became the team that jumped to an early lead in the second and third sets.Â
Junior setter Piper Matsumoto compiled 30 assists and 10 digs, which was good for her 10th double-double of the season. Along with Hanback, senior Ashley Chapman was the lone Golden Eagle to record double-digit kills as the Mobile, Ala. native finished with 12. Kellie Garraway and Madison Lawler each tallied nine digs while nine other Southern Miss players also recorded a dig. In total, Southern Miss finished with six blocks.Â
Scouting LA Tech
The Lady Techsters host the Golden Eagles two days after falling to Charlotte in five sets. LA Tech boasts an overall record of 12-13 with a 2-9 C-USA record. Senior Madeline Davis leads the offensive charge with a team-best 231 kills. Davis also owns a team-high 21 service aces. Defensively, Morgan Currie leads LA Tech with 339 digs, averaging 4.24 per set. Marie-Helene Verlinden leads the net attack with 68 blocks, including 10 solo blocks.Â
All-Time Series
The two C-USA foes will meet for the 23rd time in a series at Southern Miss leads 19-3. Dating back to 2009, the Golden Eagles have won the last 14 meetings against the Lady Techsters.
