Ramos on being named to the 2019 C-USA Women's Soccer All-Academic First Team
"Being named to the C-USA Women's Soccer All-Academic First Team is a huge honor and reminds me how lucky I am to be able to do what I love at such a high level while getting an education. Balancing nursing school and a Division I sport is a challenge, and to receive this kind of recognition keeps me wanting to excel. It would not be possible without my teammates, family, and coaches reminding me every day that I can do it."
Southern Miss head women's soccer coach Mohammed El-Zare on Ramos' being selected to the 2019 C-USA Women's Soccer All-Academic First Team
"It is not a surprise to me to see Jo get this award. She is a highly determined, focused, and intrinsically motivated individual at whatever she decides to do. When you work with young ladies that have a clear understanding of what the priorities are, it makes coaching fun and enjoyable. Jo is able to balance all of the demands that come her way and she excels. Jo has a bright future ahead of her and I am confident that she will achieve great heights in her future endeavors."
Ramos currently boasts a cumulative GPA of 3.9 as a nursing major.
During her time at Southern Miss, Ramos has garnered numerous academic accolades. In 2018, she was selected to the Google Cloud Academic All-District Women's Soccer NCAA Division 1 – District 6 First Team.
The Katy, Texas native earned a C-USA Commissioner's Academic Medal and was named to the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll for the 2018-19 and 2017-18 academic years. In addition, she earned a spot on the President's List (reserved for students with a 4.0 GPA) in the Fall of 2017, the Spring of 2018, and the Spring of 2019. She was named to the Dean's List (reserved for students with a 3.5 GPA or above) in the Fall of 2018.
Ramos currently serves as the SAAC (Student-Athlete Advisory Committee) President on the campus of Southern Miss and was a member of the prestigious Southern Miss Leadership Academy from the Fall of 2017-Spring of 2019.
Ramos' success doesn't stop in the classroom as she has been a key contributor for the Golden Eagles on the field ever since she arrived on campus as a freshman in 2017.
Ramos was one of just five players to start all 18 of the Golden Eagles' matches in 2019. She logged a total of 1,531 minutes over the course of the season, scored two goals, tallied two assists, and registered six points.
Ramos first goal of the season came in a road contest against Lamar on August 29. She netted her second goal of the season in a 3-0 shutout versus FIU on October 4, after converting a penalty kick in the 37th minute.
Ramos ended the season tied with redshirt junior forward Hailey Pohevitz and junior defender Caitlin Pierce for the most assists recorded by any player on the Southern Miss women's soccer roster for the 2019 season.
Ramos' talent has been recognized on a national scale, earning an invitation to participate in the Puerto Rico Women's National Team Training Camp in the Spring of 2019.
