Southern Miss Set to Host UTEP on Sunday

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss (2-22, 0-9 C-USA) women's volleyball team will conclude its four-game homestand on Sunday when the Golden Eagles welcome UTEP (10-12, 3-6 C-USA) to Reed Green Coliseum at 12 p.m.
The Last Time Out
The Golden Eagles added to their win total on Friday night with a four-set win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Southern Miss was paced by a career day from freshman Kess Krutsinger who had a career-high 14 kills and seven blocks. The seven blocks were the most by a Golden Eagle this season. Fellow freshman Gillian Hidalgo capped an impressive night with a game-high 15 kills.Â
Junior setter Piper Matsumoto dished out 43 assists and 18 digs for her eighth double-double of the season. Minus a second-set loss, Southern Miss controlled play and swung a game-high .310 percent in the fourth set. Sophomore Kinsley Hanback added seven kills and two blocks in front of a raucous Reed Green Coliseum crowd. Junior libero Madison Lawler finished with a game-high 26 digs, six assists, and four service aces. Senior Ashley Chapman finished one kill shy of another double-double, hitting nine kills and 18 digs.Â

The Miners head to Hattiesburg deadlocked with UAB for the final spot at the C-USA Championships. UTEP's 3-6 C-USA record puts them in eighth and holds a 10-12 overall record. The Miners opened their weekend with a three-set loss at No. 23 WKU on Friday night. UTEP had won three of its last four matches before Friday's loss. The Miners hold conference wins over LA Tech, FIU, and Marshall.Â

Southern Miss holds a 14-5 advantage in the all-time series against UTEP. The Golden Eagles have won the last seven meetings against the Miners, including three via a sweep.Â
