Coach McCall on 'Serve Up a Cure'
"The 'Serve Up A Cure' match is an event that raises money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. LLS holds a special place in the heart of our coaching staff. This is due to the fact that we lost an amazing young woman, Caroline Neisler, who played volleyball for us for three years at the University of North Alabama. She was treated in Birmingham, Ala., and unfortunately lost her battle with leukemia shortly after her diagnosis. We honor her fight, her strength, and her spirit with this event. We have worked with the Birmingham, Ala., chapter of LLS in the past and wanted to bring our 'Serve Up A Cure' event to Southern Miss volleyball."
Scouting FIU
The Panthers head to Hattiesburg on a nine-game skid with an overall record of 9-15. In C-USA play, they own a 2-10 record. A weekend ago, FIU fell to UTSA in four sets and followed that with a five-set loss to Marshall on Senior Day. Its lone C-USA wins came against FAU and Charlotte.
Statistically, senior Sidney Henderson leads the offensive charge with 254 kills -- an average of 2.73 per set. Sophomore Abbie Hughes, who is nearing the 1,000 assists mark, has dished out a team-best 954 assists at 10.26 per set this season. Hughes ranks third among all setters in C-USA with that average. Libero Lisa Bernier's 496 digs put her second in C-USA at an average of 5.35 per set.
