
Women's Volleyball Continues Homestand Against Arkansas Pine-Bluff

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -Â The Southern Miss (1-22, 0-9 C-USA) women's volleyball team will continue its four-game homestand against Arkansas-Pine Bluff (7-21, 5-9 SWAC) on Friday night at 6 p.m. The contest marks the final nonconference match for the Golden Eagles this season.Â
The Last Time Out
Last Sunday, Middle Tennessee knocked off the Golden Eagles in four sets at Reed Green Coliseum. The Golden Eagles jumped to an early lead after taking the first set in thrilling fashion, 26-24. Trailing by as many as four late in the set, the Golden Eagles utilized a Kess Krutsinger kill to tie the set before Gillian Hidalgo gave Southern Miss the lead three plays later. The Blue Raiders bounced back and had set point with a two-point lead, but Southern Miss rattled off four consecutive points and a Krutsinger kill sealed the win.Â
Middle Tennessee would end up winning the next three sets en route to a four-set win. Senior Ashley Chapman smacked a career-high 12 kills and dished out 13 digs for her second double-double of the season. Hidalgo wound up with 11 kills and Krutsinger had 10. Redshirt freshman Lindsey Legg recorded her first kill as a Golden Eagle from the back row. Junior libero Madison Lawler finished her day with 25 digs and four assists. Junior setter Piper Matsumoto assisted on 40 balls while adding four kills and five digs. Sophomore Kinsley Hanback exploded for a career-high nine kills on 26 attempts.Â

The Golden Lions hold a 7-21 record and own a 5-9 record in SWAC play. Like Southern Miss, Arkansas-Pine Bluff has played Middle Tennessee, Rice, New Orleans, Arkansas State, and Alabama State. The Golden Lions managed a single win against SWAC rival Alabama State while losing to all five teams one time. Arkansas-Pine Bluff went 2-3 at the SWAC Roundup last weekend in Jackson, Miss.Â

In the lone meeting between the two schools, Southern Miss won by a 3-0 score in 2014.Â
