Golden Eagles Continue Homestand on Sunday Against Middle Tennessee

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -Â The Southern Miss women's volleyball team will welcome home the 2009 Conference USA Regular Season Championship team when it hosts Middle Tennessee Sunday afternoon. The Golden Eagles and Blue Raiders will get the C-USA showdown started at 1 p.m.
The Last Time Out
The Golden Eagles took a hard-fought loss on Friday night from the hands of FAU. The Owls jumped on the Golden Eagles early and even with a late rally from the home team, FAU managed to steal the three-set sweep.
The Golden Eagles were paced by freshman Gillian Hidalgo's 10 kills and five digs. Junior setter Piper Matsumoto dished out 27 assists, eight digs, and a block assist. Senior Ashley Chapman smacked nine kills and freshman Kess Krutsinger added seven. Madison Lawler, a junior libero, finished her night with a game-high 29 digs.Â

The Blue Raiders head to Hattiesburg two days removed from knocking off North Texas in five sets on the road. The win moved Middle Tennessee's record to 9-13 and 2-5 in C-USA play. With a win against UT-Martin on Tuesday, the Blue Raiders ride a two-game winning streak into Sunday's contest.Â
Junior Urte Neimantaite has a team-high 271 kills for Middle Tennesse. The Lithuanian product has a pair of 19-kill performances this season, including 19 at C-USA rival Marshall. Taylor Hammill's 10.06 assists per set rank fourth in C-USA and has a total of 805 on the season. Defensively, Bri Tankesley has a team-high 313 digs and Mikaela Weidmann has a team-high 68 blocks.Â

Southern Miss holds a 5-3 lead in the all-time series against Middle Tennesse. The Golden Eagles have won each of the last four meetings by a 3-0 sweep.
