
Baseball Sweeps William Carey in Baseball Exhibition

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss scored in eight different innings, while not allowing a run in defeating William Carey 15-0 and 3-0 Sunday afternoon in a baseball fall exhibition at Pete Taylor Park/Hill Denson Field.
Matthew Guidry, Fisher Norris and Charlie Fischer each drove in three runs in the opening game, as the Golden Eagles collected 11 hits with six going for extra bases. Both Guidry and Fischer homered in the contest as Southern Miss scored at lead two runs in each of the first five innings.
Nine Southern Miss pitchers limited William Carey to one hit, while fanning 12 and walking seven. Starter Gabe Shepard gave up the game's lone hit to the second hitter of the game, Jordan Szush, and walked two with four strikeouts to garner the victory.
The home team also took advantage of five Crusader errors that accounted for six unearned runs in the contest.
In the nightcap, Will McGillis delivered a run-scoring single in the first inning, while Gabe Montenegro and Fischer added RBIs to complete the Golden Eagle scoring.
