The Lady Eagles come off a great win against WKU to take on the Thundering Herd.
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Lady Eagles have traveled to West Virginia to take on Marshall after their thrill of a win at WKU. Southern Miss will take on the Herd on Saturday afternoon in the Henderson Center at 12pm CT.
Southern Miss (10-10, 2-5) has faced Marshall 23 times and they are hoping the 24th meeting will add another tick to the win column on Saturday. Marshall (11-8, 5-1) comes off a big game against Louisiana Tech where they won after three overtime periods, 90-88 on their home court.
The Lady Eagles lead the all-time series with the Herd 15-8, but Marshall owns the series when playing in their house, 4-6. Southern Miss has a two-game win streak in the matchup, with the last time they played being a win for the Lady Eagles on their home floor in Reed Green Coliseum, 70-61. USM has faced the Herd with Coach Joye Lee-McNelis at the helm every time, and the Herd's head coach Tony Kemper has been at the helm only two seasons, thus seeing the Lady Eagles only twice.
Southern Miss has been making strides all season long, continuing to progress with every touch of the ball. The win against WKU was the first conference loss at home for the Lady Toppers seen in 22 straight games. The Lady Eagles are also the only team in Conference USA to post two wins against WKU on their home court. Respect Leaphart was on fire for USM, posting her second double-double of her career against the Lady Toppers and posting new career highs in both points and rebounds with 24 and 11, respectively. The junior was accompanied by Kelsey Jones in the double-double club for the night, with Jones posting her third double-double of the season with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Megan Brown had 10 points on the night, the 10th time this season she's posted 10 or more points. Overall, three returners on the squad have had at least one 3-pointer in 10 or more games. For Megan Brown, she's had at least one in 14 games. Shonte Hailes has had at least one in 10 games. Allie Kennedy has had at least one in 12 games. Out of those three, Kennedy has had nine games with two or more 3-pointers, where Brown has had four and Hailes has had three with two-plus 3-pointers.
