The Vanderbilt Invitational proved a success for the Golden Eagles.
NASHVILLE, Tenn.– The Southern Miss Track & Field Team had a good showing at the Vanderbilt Invitational, with a broken record and multiple first place finishes.
John Warren, an accomplished and decorated senior, broke his own school record on the second day of the Vanderbilt Invitational in the triple jump. His previous distance of 53'7.5" was shattered by his new best, 55'2". Not only is it now the school record and Warren's career-best, it is also the top distance in the NCAA and No. 3 in the world. His previous best came at the Conference USA Indoor Championships, for which he was Champion and named C-USA Athlete of the Meet. He then went on to the NCAA Regionals, then Nationals, and was an NCAA All-American.
Assistant Coach John Ellis on John Warren
"John Warren is a very special athlete. Not only is he incredibly talented, but his work ethic, dedication, and attention to detail is what allowed him to produce the farthest triple jump in the NCAA and one of the farthest in the world. I'm very proud of the way he has represented our program, the way he encourages our team to be better, and I am very excited to continue working towards more wins and farther jumps."
Head Coach Jon Stuart
"We had good performances across the board today; but the jumpers were especially electrifying! John Warren's NCAA leading triple jump was incredible. Eric Richards win in the high with 7'2.25" was amazing because he's only 5'9". On the track we made good progress with good runs from Rian Robinson and McKinely West. The throwers were led by Danisha Jones season best weight throw."
