HATTIESBURG, Miss. - With about a month left in the summer collegiate league seasons, nine Southern Miss baseball players continue to play across the country.
One addition is Matt Wallner, who joined the Falmouth Commodores in the Cape Cod League Sunday night. The Golden Eagle outfielder did not make the 26-man roster for the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team and will compete on the Cape for the remainder of the summer.
Three Golden Eagles ended their summers early due to injury, including Fred Franklin, Erick Hoard and Will McGillis. All three, though, are expected to be ready for the 2019 Southern Miss campaign. Rising sophomore Gabe Montenegro played the first half of his season for the Waynesboro Generals in the Valley Baseball League.
