HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- Southern Miss head volleyball coach Stephanie Radecki has announced the team's fall schedule, marking her first season at the helm.
"Our staff is very excited to begin its first season representing Southern Miss Volleyball," Radecki said. "We will be challenged this fall, and I am confident this team will see a lot of success. Our senior class is not only talented, but provides strong leadership, and we feel this team can be developed throughout the season and be prepared to compete for a championship."
The new era for the program begins with the 11th-annual Southern Miss Classic, an event which has also been held on Opening Weekend every year since 2010. The Golden Eagles first take the floor on Friday, Aug. 24 at 4:30 p.m. against Florida A&M, then conclude play on Saturday against Alcorn State (11 a.m.) and former C-USA foe East Carolina (7 p.m.).
The following three weekends feature tournaments at Ole Miss (Aug. 31-Sept. 2), Florida State/Florida A&M (Sept. 7-8) and Alabama (Sept. 14-15). The second of those events will be split between the two Tallahassee campuses. Notable opponents throughout that stretch include Alabama, Florida State, Ohio State, Ole Miss and Purdue.
Conference play begins in the Lone Star State with UTSA (Sept. 21) and UTEP (Sept. 23) before defending champion WKU comes to Hattiesburg on Sept. 27.
The Golden Eagles get three consecutive home league matches against Charlotte, Rice and LA Tech from Oct. 5-14, and then five more in a row from Oct. 23 - Nov. 5. That latter stretch also includes non-conference tilts with Southeastern Louisiana and Alabama A&M (also the home finale).
The regular season concludes Nov. 10 at North Texas, and from there the team will look to make another trip to the Conference USA Championships (Nov. 16-18), this time hosted by Marshall.
Southern Miss, which returns seniors Dani Ajayi, Sarah Bell, Alexis Coombs, Kylie Grandy and Katherine Still, has posted four consecutive 20-win seasons. Fans can follow the team (SouthernMissVB) on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
