MONROE, La. – Southern Miss (14-5, 4-3 SBC) earned a 3-0 (26-24, 25-23, 25-17) road win over ULM (7-14, 1-6 SBC) Thursday at the ULM Activity Center. The Golden Eagles hit .368 as a team, their best mark in Sun Belt play this season and their highest since opening weekend, while limiting the Warhawks to .268. Southern Miss finished with 51 kills, 50 assists and 58 digs.
Sadie McAda led the Golden Eagles with 13 kills, hitting .414, and added 14 digs for her 13th double-double. She extended her double-double streak to five while hitting over .400 in a match for the third time this season.  Aubrey Judd recorded 11 kills at a .385 clip, while Elly Stewart and Diana Wells added nine kills apiece. Allie Hazelwood handed out 42 assists, and Sunni Sheppard led the defense with 20 digs. Sheppard has now reached 20 digs in each of her last three matches, the first time she has done so since her first season at Southern Miss in 2024.
How it Happened
Southern Miss built a late lead in the opening set, but ULM fought back to make it 22-23. Wells' kill gave the Golden Eagles set point, and ULM tied it at 24 with a service ace. Southern Miss answered with back-to-back kills from Judd and Stewart to take the set, 26-24. Stewart had five kills in the frame, while Wells and Judd added four each.
McAda found her rhythm in the second set after recording two kills in the opener. She put down seven kills on 10 attempts, hitting .700 in the set. Southern Miss opened a 15-10 advantage, and McAda's kills helped the Golden Eagles hold off a ULM rally that tied the score at 16 and later gave the Warhawks a 19-18 lead. Southern Miss closed with a 7-4 stretch, including three McAda kills, to secure a 25-23 win.
ULM led 9-6 early in the third set before Southern Miss surged ahead with a 7-1 run. Lillie Johnson and Judd delivered kills and a ULM setting error made it 9-9. After the teams traded points, Lowther served an ace to put Southern Miss in front, then Judd's kill and another ULM attack error extended the lead to 13-10. The Golden Eagles kept control from there, hitting .457 in the set and finishing with a 25-17 victory.
