HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss Women's Tennis team travels to Alcorn State on Thursday searching for its ninth-straight win.
The Golden Eagles have been perfect in the month of March and haven't dropped a match since Feb. 28 in a close 4-3 match to Nicholls State. The squad went 4-0 while in Florida earning two 7-0 sweeps and two 6-1 wins.
Senior Elena Roca's undefeated season continues with a 15-0 overall record. Roca's final campaign with the Golden Eagles already has her high in the record books for Southern Miss. Heading into Thursday's match, Roca sits at No. 3 in the most consecutive singles win behind Kati Kocsis who had 23 in 1996 and Stephanie Dellocono who had 17 in 2007.
Roca's totaled 71 singles wins in her four years at Southern Miss and is second in Southern Miss history with the most singles wins behind Alex Kitchen who had 80 from 2014-17.
Roca and doubles partner Lara Isis De Oliveira are also perfect in the month of March and recorded seven wins together since Dominic Modise paired them together against Jackson State in early March.
Junior Rikeetha Pereira improved to 15-2 after last week. Pereira holds an 11-match win streak on court 2. Tjsasa Jerse is close behind with a 14-2 record and boasts a seven-match win streak heading into Thursday's match.
The eight-match win streak for the Golden Eagles is the longest in school history after passing Randy Rowley's squad's seven-straight win streak in 2007.
