Southern Miss Sweeps Fairleigh Dickinson in Orlando

HATTIESBURG, Miss. â€" The Southern Miss men's tennis team swept Fairleigh Dickinson 7-0 this afternoon on the second day of the USTA National TC in Orlando, Fla. to improve to 11-3 on the season. Today's blanking marks the fifth sweep of the 2018 campaign, the fourth coming by the score of 7-0.
The team effort started with doubles action on courts one and two where the Golden Eagles dispatched the Knights 6-2 in both matches. Chung Han Tsai and Wen-Po Tseng, slotted on No. 2, move to 10-1 overall on the season, extending their winning streak to eight straight matches. Daniel Merker and Jorman Reyes, playing on court No. 1, rise to 4-3 overall after their victory. The duo of Tom Cecchetto and Mieszko Kwasniewski did not finish their match.
Tom Cecchetto made his fourth career appearance on court one, taking it 6-4 and 6-3, bumping to 5-4 on the year and evening his record, 2-2, in the No. 1 slot.
In the singles matches, Reyes spread his win streak to 11, matching last season's high, with a 6-2, 6-4 finish. The junior is a perfect 5-0 on court four. His 11-1 record is the best of any Southern Miss player this season.
Tseng's 6-2 victories in both games make him a perfect 9-0 this season and 3-0 on No. 3, tied for his best setting with court four.
Southern Miss will finish up play in Florida with a 10 a.m. contest with the Butler Bulldogs tomorrow morning.
